Frequently Asked Questions

When a loved one dies, grieving family members and friends often are confronted with dozens of decisions about the funeral. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

How can I plan ahead?
Planning ahead can help you make informed and thoughtful decisions about funeral arrangements. It allows you to choose the specific items you want and spares your survivors the stress of making these decisions.

How do I choose the appropriate type of funeral?
Every family is different; not everyone wants the same type of funeral. Funeral practices are influenced by religious and cultural traditions, costs and personal preferences. These factors will also influence whether the body will be present at the funeral, if there will be a viewing or visitation, and if so, whether the casket will be open or closed, and whether the remains will be buried or cremated.

What is so special about family-owned funeral homes?
Family-owned funeral homes are locally owned and operated, independent funeral homes. They have a personal relationship with the community and are actively involved in the communities they serve. With family-owned funeral homes, everything they do reflects their ongoing commitment to provide affordable, quality services to the community. Customer trust is built slowly over time. Family-owned funeral homes are usually staffed by family members and members of the community.

I would like to have a traditional funeral, but with cremation as a means of disposition. Can I do that?
Yes. Many people think if they select cremation that they can only have a memorial service. That is not true. You may have calling hours (wake), a funeral service in a church, or other traditional funeral options, and still use cremation as a form of disposition.
