Charles Pawlowicz Obituary

A gentle soul, Charles William Pawlowicz, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
Born in Cleveland, OH on December 5, 1939 to the late Chester and Adella Schultz, Charles graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, OH, and then attended Case Technical College. In the late 1950's, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA and then New London, CT. He served with honor on the USS Shark and USS Triton. The USS Triton was the first nuclear submarine to circumnavigate the globe, and Charles was photographed in The National Geographic while crossing the equator. After the Navy, he pursued his education and earned his MS in Physics at the University of Connecticut. After serving as a research assistant with UCONN, he continued his education at the University of Hartford earning his BS and MBA. For many years, he was employed by the Technical Training Department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT where he met his beloved wife, Carlene. Charles and family moved to Columbus, GA in 1982 where he trained employees for the new Pratt & Whitney Aircraft plant yet to be opened. While at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Charles continued his love for education and taught Physics and Mathematics at Columbus Technical Institute. He continued teaching and immensely enjoyed his many students at Columbus Tech until his traumatic brain injury 22 years ago.
Charles had a love for history and travel. He was an Egyptian history buff, and the highlights of travel for he and Carlene were trips to Egypt, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, Poland, and Rome, where his hands touched the now Saint John Paul II.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Adele Sanders, and his sister-in-law, Patricia Haertel. He leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Carlene, and his loving children Denise Woodham (Grady) and Jason Pontes (Heather); along with his adored grandchildren, Hawkins, Jude, and Sophia; and his brother-in-law William Haertel. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his Aunt Marion Kray and his St. Thomas family where he once taught Education for Ministry.
The family invites friends to celebrate Charles' life at a Memorial service in the Chapel of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 3:30 P.M. with the Reverend Grace Burton-Edwards officiating.
