Charles Tharpe Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Mitchell Tharpe, 51, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2016 at St. Anne Catholic Church 2000 Kay Circle Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Father Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. A Rosary will be said 6:00 P.M. Thursday with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus. Active Pallbearers will be Chuck Davis, Jay Brodwyn, James Taff, John Blackmon, John Way, Mark Sinyard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men's 3.0 Green Island Country Club Tennis Team and the 1983 Class of Hawkinsville High School.

Chuck was born November 23, 1964 in Vidalia, GA son of Mitchell "Jabo" Tharpe and Margaret Newberry Tharpe of Hawkinsville, GA. He graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1983 and attended Middle Georgia College, then transferred to Southern Polytechnic State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1989.

Upon graduation from college, he relocated to Columbus and was employed by Columbus Foundries. Later he formed a business partnership with his father-in-law, Dan Talbot, known as Crystal Valley Homes.

Chuck was a vivacious person who loved the outdoors and different sports. He enjoyed being captain of the Green Island Hills Country Club Men's Tennis Team. He was selected as the state of Georgia Male Captain of the Year in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, CW and Dorothy Newberry and great grandmother, Verna Tharpe.

Survivors other than his parents include his devoted wife of 26 years, Clare Talbot Tharpe of Columbus, GA, daughter, Chloe Annelise and son, Reece William both of Columbus, GA, sister, Dawn Tharpe Warnock (Keith) of Hawkinsville, GA and brother, Brian William Tharpe (Stephanie) of Macon, GA, grandmother, Frances Durden of Macon, GA, mother-in-law, Elsie Austin Ezell (David), father-in-law, Dan Talbot of Midland, GA, sisters-in-law, Alison Clay and most special brother-in-law, Billy, of Savannah, GA, Rebecca Talbot Johnson (Al) of Midland, GA and Laura Talbot of Columbus, GA, and many special nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Chuck never met a stranger and was a jack-of-all trades. He always lended a helping hand and was loved by all and loved everyone. He will forever be cherished.
