Doris Toney Obituary
Doris Elaine Banks Toney, 87, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Cindy Garrard officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Toney was born November 21, 1929 in Jasper, AL daughter of the late Benjamin Sylvester Banks and Lucille Bennett Banks. She retired as a Supervisor for the Department of Family and Children Services and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Columbus.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Herman Toney, Jr. and sisters, Eris Rossano and Kate Chambless.
Doris was one of the most positive people one could ever meet. Her smile would light up a room and her hugs were strong and genuine. A woman of great faith, she taught Sunday School, sang alto in the church choir and was active in the United Methodist Women. She served as a Lay Witness Missionary, visiting communities throughout the country.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy T. Prescott (Tommy), 3 sons, J. David Toney (Debbie) all of Columbus, GA, Rodney S. Toney (Faye) of Mont Belvieu, TX and Wayne H. Toney (Gloria) of Clover, SC, 13 grandchildren, Riley Prescott, Blair Prescott, Amanda Eiland (Chase), Ben Toney, Adam Toney, Courtney Newell (Chris), Heather Horne (Jay), Erin Tarvin (Brandon), Margo Lannan (Will), Gabe Toney, Scott Condrey (Tenille), Jeff Miller (Traci) and Amanda Erickson (Ryan), and 8 great grandchildren, Lucy Eiland, Reagan Newell, McGuire Newell, Ella Horne, Garrison Horne, Presley Tarvin, Olivia Tarvin and Kylee Condrey. Special thanks to Jean Malone, Maretha Ashford, attentive caregivers and the Manor House staff.
