Fredanna Harper Obituary

Mrs. Fredanna "Freddie" Jones Harper, 91, of Columbus, passed away on February 26, 2017 - her 91st birthday - at her residence, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harper will be held graveside at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA at 2:00pm ET on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, with Rev. Kevin Calhoun officiating and Rev. Lewis "Bud" Passmore assisting. Active pallbearers will be Jimbo Harper, Joe Harper, Jake Harper, Taylor Harper, Branson Odum, and Joe Rutledge. Visitation will be held graveside immediately following the funeral service.

Mrs. Harper was born on February 26, 1926 in Tallassee, AL to her late parents, Abner Jack Jones and Ethel Causey Jones. She was a retired Secretary and Office Manager in the Property Insurance Claims field, having worked for many years happily alongside her husband at their business, Harper Adjustment Company.

Mrs. Harper accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life at the First Baptist Church of Donelson, TN, and has been a faithful follower of Him ever since, including serving as a dedicated member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church in Columbus, GA for more than the last 50 years of her life. While at Hilton Terrace, Mrs. Harper taught several different Sunday School classes, served on numerous church committees, served as a leader for the Royal Ambassadors, was an officer for the Women's Missionary Union (WMU), and started and led Sunday School and worship services for special needs individuals of various ages. This "Exceptional Ministry", which was the first of its kind in the Columbus, GA area, continues to this day, over 40 years later, due to other, very caring individuals at Hilton Terrace who assumed the leadership role of this program when Mrs. Harper was no longer physically able to continue in that role. Mrs. Harper enjoyed every aspect of an active church life, and missed being able to be a part of that during the last few years, due to her ongoing illness. Although Mrs. Harper could no longer attend in person, she still enjoyed church services on television, watching services from both First Baptist and St. Luke churches with her husband, each Sunday morning.

Mrs. Harper loved her family very dearly, and enjoyed and cherished every moment spent with them. And, win or lose, she was also a tremendous fan and long-time supporter of both her Auburn Tigers and Atlanta Braves. War Eagle!

Along with her parents, Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by two aunts.

Mrs. Harper is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James "Jim" Bruce Harper, two sons, Jimmy Harper and his wife, Christina, and Chris Harper and his wife, Penny, six grandchildren, Jimbo Harper and his wife, Peyton, Joe Harper and his fiancée, Caraline, Jake Harper and his wife, Laile, Taylor Harper, Morganne Harper, and Branson Odum and his wife, Nicole, and six great-grandchildren, Riley Harper, Hudson Harper, Hampton Harper, Bentley Harper, Charlotte Harper, and Bo Odum.

Mrs. Harper was blessed with many dear friends and neighbors who exhibited love and caring beyond what would normally be expected, especially during the last few months. Mrs. Harper and her family were also extremely blessed by having so many special caregivers who treated Mrs. Harper, and the entire Harper family, as if they were one of their own during this very difficult time, even to the point of making true, personal sacrifices to care for Mrs. Harper. For that we cannot thank Jennifer, Sylvania, Lisa, Doretta, Tammie, Tamala, Sandy, Rhonda, Wanda, Nicole, hospice nurses Kellie and Lewis, and chaplain Steve enough, and we will forever be grateful for the love they showed our wife, mother, and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Mrs. Fredanna Harper to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, either by mail at 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA, 31904, or online at www.gentivahospicefoundation.org.
