Freddie Blanton Obituary

Freddie Woodfin Blanton, Jr. 75 of Columbus died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2018 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Watson McKemie officiating. A Private Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
Freddie was born December 04, 1942 in Langdale, Al. son of the late Dorothy Urquhart and Fred Blanton. He was an electrician by trade and also an electrical supply salesman. After retiring from that field, he was employed by the Muscogee County School District in the transportation department where he worked for eleven years.
Freddie was a remarkable man, a wonderful father, friend and husband. He had such passion for life and enjoyed every moment of it. His presence lighted up the room and his wonderful smile was like a ray of sunshine. His one passion in life besides his family and his love for the Lord was his enjoyment in restoring antique cars. Freddie was also an avid lover of sports. He coached his son, Jerry, in Pop Warner football (Edgewood Red Devils). For the last twenty years, his greatest love was watching his grandchildren play sports. When Chad, Caroline or Chandler were on the field, Freddie was always present.
Other than his parents, Freddie is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Wyatt Blanton.
Survivors include his devoted wife Linda, son, Jerry (Benita), daughter, Lisa Davis (Mike), sister, Judy Taylor, eight grandchildren, and his precious feline Prissy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or any humane society of your choice.
