Gloria Germany Obituary
Gloria Germany, a resident of Spring Harbor, passed away surrounded by friends and family on Wednesday morning, February 22, following a brief illness.
Gloria was born in Columbus, GA, on July 19, 1928, and attended Jordan High School. Gloria was a dedicated wife and mother who impacted the lives of everyone she met. She and her husband Gordy lived in Chicago, Illinois, until 1971, when they moved to Atlanta Georgia, where they lived until Gordy retired. They spent many happy retirement years in Alex City and Birmingham, AL.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 25, at The Church of the Holy Family in Columbus, GA, with a reception following at Spring Harbor. The family will greet visitors following a Prayer Service, Friday, February 24, from 6-7 pm at The Church of the Holy Family.
Gloria is survived by her children Joan Germany and Julie Germany Nudo of Addison TX; Thomas Gordy Germany III (Melanie) of Atlanta, GA; Patsy Germany, her sister in law from Birmingham, AL; and eight beloved grandchildren, Ryan (Andrea), Robert (Katie), Lauren (Nick), Caroline, Sam, Susan (Reid), Sadie, and Anna. She was also blessed to have two great-grandchildren, Clare and Thomas.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents James Edgar Poole, Sr., and Jewel Hindsman Poole and by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Gordy Germany, Jr.
Throughout her life Gloria was a valued and respected volunteer for numerous causes. She was a member of The Church of the Holy Family. She and her husband Gordy were lifelong Roman Catholics and were bestowed an Apostolic Blessing in 1999 by Pope John Paul II. Gloria was a member of the Historic Columbus Foundation and the Columbus Museum where she served as a docent. She also volunteered regularly at Spring Harbor Health Care Center.
Gloria's family wishes to express their gratitude to the residents and staff of Spring Harbor and to her many friends, especially Barbara, who added so much joy to her life in the years since her return to Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, Gloria requested that donations be made to the Holy Family Outreach through The Church of the Holy Family, 320 12th Street, Columbus, GA 31901, or to the charity of your choice.
