Henderson Smith Caldwell died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House at age 79.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
He was born June 23, 1937 in Selma, AL to the late Henderson Caldwell and Hattye Lee Dudley Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell moved to Columbus at age 15; graduated from Jordan Vocational High School and attended Troy University.
He was in the printing business for many years and was manager of Blue Cross Blue Shield's printing department before retiring at age 50 as the company was merging with the Atlanta Corp. and restructuring.
For the next 9 years, he managed the Par 3 Golf Course in Bibb City, overseeing maintenance and teaching junior golfers. He took them to the "Future Masters" in Dothan, AL every year.
Before moving back to Columbus, he lived in Tuscaloosa, AL for 10 years and enjoyed going to all the sporting events- especially Alabama Football, of which he was an avid fan!
Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Lisa Scrivner of Columbus, GA and Alan Caldwell (Christina) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Ryan Scrivner of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Erin Scrivner of Newnan, GA, Alex Caldwell of Birmingham, AL, Brooklynn Caldwell of Birmingham, AL and Jarrett Doran of Pell City, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association 5156 River Rd. Suite M. Columbus, GA 31904.
