Jim Knox Obituary

Jim Knox, 86, a native of Atlanta, GA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2016. He moved to Columbus with his wife, Eleanor Lee Knox in 1954.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Edgewood Baptist Church 3564 Forrest Rd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. David Howle officiating. A private family interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Mr. Knox was born January 14, 1930 in Atlanta, GA. Jim retired from Knox Pest Control starting in the pest control industry in 1952. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church where he was an elder as well as active in other ministries there. He served as a trustee for 22 years at Toccoa Falls College. He also served on the state agricultural commission board with Tommy Irvin.

Jim was a mentor, teacher, companion, confidant, and above all the friend to many. His bright smile and laughter would fill the room with God's love and light. He leaves so many friends who were like his surrogate family.

His parents, sister Betty, and grandson Benjamin Murphy preceded him in death.
Surviving is a loving and devoted wife of 68 years, two sons, and two daughters: John Knox (Carol), Ronny Knox (Gail), DiGraves (Brent), Luann Murphy (Monte). Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and their spouses, and 21 great grandchildren.

Thanks to Cynthia Ellison for her tender care-giving during Jim's illness.

Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions in Jim's name to the student scholarship fund at Toccoa Falls College and music ministry at Edgewood Baptist Church.
