Joanne Reitz Obituary
Joanne English Reitz, age 84, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on October 22, 2015 at Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Frank Parr officiating. A private interment will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
She was born June 7, 1931 in Waterville, Pennsylvania, daughter of Frances Bonnell English and Graydon Albert English.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She supported her husband during his military career in the U.S. Army as well as in three family businesses in Columbus, Georgia. These businesses were The Accuracy Gun Shop, T.A.G. tree service and T.A.G. trucking company. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, salmon fishing in the Great Lakes, fly fishing in Pennsylvania and hunting. After retiring, she and her husband spent half of each year in the home she and her husband built in Waterville, PA and the other half of the year in Columbus.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, (Ret) MSG William Edwin Reitz; her brother, William English and her sisters, Dorothy Engel and Patricia Johnston.
Survivors include her sister, Helen English of Avis PA, her daughters, Virginia (Jinny) Jo Toelle (Forrest) of Columbus, GA and Mary Frances Reitz (Daniel) of Mukilteo, Washington; grandchildren, Ryan Kristopher Toelle (Amanda) of Columbus, GA, Matthew Aaron Toelle of Columbus, GA, Nicholas Alexander Reitz (Rebecca) of State College, PA, Peter Kristian Reitz (Austin) of Athens, GA, Joshua Nathan Reitz of Ashville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Austin William Toelle, Evan Kristopher Toelle, Amelia Erin Reitz and sister-in-law, Jean Ergott (Lowell) of Avis, PA.
