Leroy Satterfield Obituary
Leroy D. Satterfield, 84, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 16,2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA31907 with Rev. Mark Sasser and Chaplain Prathan Powell officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Satterfield was born August 19, 1932 in Charleston, IL son of the late Elbert Eugene Satterfield and Viola Calhoun Satterfield. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served for 20 years and 6 days. While in the Army, he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. After retirement, he was employed in collection dept. of CIT, various banks, Furniture store, Car Dealers. Mr. Satterfield caned chairs for 30 years doing Christmas Made in the South and Mall Craft shows. He also was a member of the Woodworkers Guild. He and his family fed the ducks and geese at Cooper Creek Park for 27yrs.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Dale and John
Satterfield, sister, Catherine Satterfield Franklin, and one son-in-law, Robert Gill.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Edith Newell Satterfield of Columbus, GA, daughter, Vicky Gill, son, Rick Satterfield (Vianne) of Marietta, GA, sisters, Thelma Myers of Charleston, IL and Martha Pierce (Jack) of Mattoon, IL, adopted sister, Bette Gentry (Nolan) of Paris, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
