Lonney Harris Obituary
Lonney Ray (Opa) Harris, 64, of Columbus, GA died Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Dr. Jones Doughton and Rev. Dr. Joel L. Alvis officiating. A private interment will be held in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Harris was born June 17, 1952 in Heidelberg, Germany, son of Louella Darden Harris of Columbus, GA and the late Elvin P. Harris. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired after 30 years as a Technician with Communicorp, a division of AFLAC. He was a 1970 graduate of Smiths Station High School where he was a star athlete and attended two years of college at the University of Montevallo.
Survivors other than his mother, Louella Darden Harris, include his wife, Diane Pickron Harris of Columbus, GA, step-son, Scott Lewis of Phenix City, AL, brothers, Rodney Harris (Carolyn) of Franklin, TN, Ronney Harris of Starke, FL, Randy Harris of Edgewater, MD, Richard Harris of South Hadley, MA, grandson, Vaylen Lewis of Phenix City, AL, several nieces and nephews, and two beloved pets, Hailey and Travis.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Lonney's memory to Paws Humane of Columbus.
