Paul Mahaffey Obituary

Paul C. Mahaffey, 67, of Lake Junaluska, NC passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015.

Cryptside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 18, 2015 in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Larry B. Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Paul C. Mahaffey was born February 10, 1948 in Ft. Knox, KY son of J.D. Mahaffey and Kate Farmer Mahaffey. Paul moved to Columbus, GA at the age of 13 with his family. He graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1966, and from Southern Polytechnical Institute in 1972. He worked as a civil engineer for the Georgia Highway Department briefly before leaving to serve in the U.S. Army. In 1972, he returned to Columbus as Traffic Engineer and later as Transit Director. In 1983, Paul left city government to pursue a career in the private sector. He began a career in real estate, working for Waddell Realty, where he specialized in commercial real estate. In 1995, he opened Re/Max Prime Realty as Broker/Owner, retiring in 2008.

Paul was actively involved in his community. He served as President of the Columbus Jaycees, President of the Columbus Board of Realtors, and a Director on the GA Board of Realtors. He was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church for 35 years, and the Joyful Noises Sunday School Class. Paul served on the Board of Trustees at Wynnton and was instrumental in establishing the Wynnton Endowment Fund, serving on that committee for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jean McNeal Mahaffey of Lake Junaluska, NC; his son, Jason Mahaffey and wife, Jennifer (Eysel) of Lake Junaluska, NC; two granddaughters, Emilia and Charlotte Mahaffey; and his sister, Dr. Cherry Mahaffey Stone (Clark) also of Lake Junaluska, NC. He also has several cousins and nieces.
