Rita Pitts Obituary
Rita Russell Pitts 74, of Columbus, Ga. died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Midtown Medical Center after a long battle with Cancer.
A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday in Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at 8660 Creek Rise Drive. Columbus, Ga. 31904 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga.
Mrs. Pitts was born April 21, 1942 in Florala, Al. daughter of the late Harry E. and Foye S. Russell. Mrs. Pitts moved to Columbus at an early age. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended the University of Georgia until leaving to marry Robert E. Pitts, Jr. in September 1960.
She began her working career at CB&T where her outgoing personality made her a favorite of many customers. She moved to the Hughston Clinic where she finished her career in the Human Resources Department. Her last position was with Buffalo Rock as Human Resources Coordinator.
She had an active mind and was a life-long learner. She was a voracious reader, musically gifted, a dedicated tennis player and became a very talented pottery artist in retirement. She was the best shot in our family.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years Robert E. Pitts, Jr., two sons Robert E. Pitts, III (Valerie) and Wynn Whitfield Pitts (Beth). Two Grandchildren, Robert (Bo) Whitfield Pitts and Hannah Leigh Pitts. One step Great Grandchild Caleb McTyre Camp.
Most important to Mrs. Pitts was her family. She was an amazing mother, wife and friend to many. No one held her heart like her grandchildren did. She will be deeply and dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of Rita Russell Pitts to Corta, P.O. Box 8236 Columbus, Georgia 31908.
