Sharon Melvin Obituary
Sharon E. Melvin returned home on April 15th, 2018 while at her home in Columbus, GA.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church 6795 Whitesville Rd. Columbus, GA 31904 on Thursday, April, 19th at 4:00 PM with Rev. Scott Tucker officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Sharon was born on November 27th, 1944 in North Carolina. She grew up all over North Carolina as the daughter of a Methodist minister. Each new church was where she called home during her formative years. She graduated from Hickory High School and then attended Greensboro College before completing her undergraduate degree at Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC. Her move to Lenoir Rhyne coincided with her marriage to her high school sweetheart, the late Wayne P. Melvin on June 19, 1965.
After college, Sharon began her teaching career at Kenworth Elementary in Hickory, NC where she taught 3rd grade. For the next 30 years, Sharon shaped the lives of so many of her students, many of which have continued to stay in touch with her throughout the years. Throughout her life, she continuously put other's needs above her own and always without the need for recognition.
She leaves behind her son, Chad Melvin, her daughter-in-law, Melanie Melvin, her grandchildren, Gracie and Grant Melvin all of Hamilton, GA, her sister, Leanne Cook, brother-in-law, Greg Cook of Albemarle, NC along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Many called her Mimi while others called her Aunt Sissy, or Sharon. No matter the name used, the underlying message of Love was always the foundation.
