Sherry Arrington Obituary

Sherry Scott Arrington, 68, of Midland, GA, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, 5122 Pierce Chapel Road Midland, GA 31820 with Rev. Lynn Meadows-White officiating. The family will receive fiends following the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Sherry was born September 25, 1946 in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of the late Dr. James A. Scott and Nettie Lewis Scott. She grew up in Jonesville, SC and graduated from Pacolet High School. Sherry attended Birmingham-Southern College and graduated from Auburn University in 1976 with a BS in elementary education. While working during the summer at Montreat, NC, she met and later married Bill Arrington and they began their life together teaching school in Hopkinsville, KY. After relocating to Columbus in 1970, Sherry taught at Wesley Heights Elementary School before beginning a family.
Sherry is remembered as a loving mother and dedicated wife who devoted her life to taking care of her family and others. Some of her greatest joys involved travel with family and friends; tending to her beautiful gardens, especially her daylily beds; enjoying her grandchildren; time with her Bridge buddies; and catering.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Brent Scott of Kennesaw, GA.
Survivors include her husband, William W. Arrington of Midland, GA; a daughter, Heather Childers and her husband, Stephen of Midland, GA; a son, Blake Arrington and his wife, Holli of Auburn, AL; her brothers, Terry Scott and his wife, Elizabeth, of Roanoke, VA and Lawton Scott of Kennesaw, GA; 5 grandchildren, Katherine Liesendahl, Laura Lisendahl, Anna Lisendahl, Cole Arrington, and Ben Arrington; 3 step grandsons, Timothy Childers, Aaron Childers, and Christian Childers; 4 nephews; 2 great nieces; and one great nephew.
Sherry's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Andrew Pippas and the full staff of dedicated doctors, nurses, and caregivers at John B. Amos Cancer Center for the impassioned care Sherry received throughout her illness. Grateful appreciation is also expressed to the staff of Columbus Hospice House for their compassionate service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to John B. Amos Cancer Center or to Columbus Hospice House.
