Summie Thomas Obituary
Summie M. Thomas, Jr. 87 of Columbus died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Gentiva Hospice.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Friday June 19, 2015 at Riverdale Cemetery with Dr. Robert Beckum officiating. There will be a reception and visitation following the service at St. Luke United Methodist Church Ministry Center, according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Mr. Thomas was born January 26, 1928 son of the late Summie Major Thomas, Sr. and Levey Harrison Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a 1946 Graduate of Columbus High School, 1949 Graduate of Emory University at Oxford, and 1951 Graduate of Auburn University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He also was a member of the Columbus Junior Chamber of Commerce and was Past President of the Sertoma Club. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for over 56 years and was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class and was a former member of the administrative board at St. Luke. Mr. Thomas worked with the Nehi Bottling Co., spent 22 years in the automobile industry, and later was a builder and developer in the Columbus area
Other than his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Robbie Ward Thomas, brothers, Ken Thomas and Milton Thomas, and sisters, Edith Horne, Jean Crevling, and Shirley Pease.
Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Lingo (Rick) of Hamilton, Ga., sons, Sim Thomas of Columbus, Ga., and Bob Thomas (Juanita) of Ellerslie, Ga., sister-in-law, Louise Thomas, grandchildren, Hannah Thomas, Nancy Thomas, Elizabeth Lingo, Drew Lingo, Trey Lingo, Steve Melton (Holly), Lynnann Gates, Dalton Folds; great grandchildren, Kimmi Peterson, Devon Peterson and Jamin Gates and twenty four nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers make contributions to the St. Luke United Methodist Church Fellowship Class 1104 2nd Avenue Columbus, GA 31901
