Gail Cartledge Laye

Gail Cartledge Laye, 83 of Hamilton, Georgia died Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 09, 2024 in the Chapel of Pierce Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Akin and Rev. Lynn Meadows-White officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the church.

Gail was born December 23, 1940 in Columbus, Georgia daughter of the late Charles Webster and Mable Carpenter Cartledge. She was a graduate of Columbus High School, Auburn University and retired from Wesley Heights Elementary School. Gail married her husband James Douglas Laye on August 26, 1961 and resided in Columbia, Alabama before moving to Lake Harding in 1989. While living on the lake, they enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with friends.

Other than her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband Douglas and her younger sister Carol Cartledge Evans.

Survivors include her five children, Linda Laye, Scott Laye and wife Bates, Neal Laye and wife Tyler, Leslie Laye Mockalis and husband Steve and Laura Laye Willoughby and husband Don; grandchildren, Carson and Wyndham Laye, Jackson and Davis Laye, Rachael, Sarah (Ali), Catherine, and Henry Mockalis, Owen and Peyton Willoughby and one great grandchild Charlotte Laye Willoughby.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Pierce Chapel Methodist Church 5122 Pierce Chapel Road Midland, GA 30120 or Pine Mountain First United Methodist Church Youth Program 206 McDougald Ave, Pine Mountain, Georgia 31822
