William Grimes Obituary

William Eugene Grimes, 67, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully after a long battle with brain cancer on Wednesday, April 17 in Waycross, GA.

William, affectionately known by his loved ones as Bill, was born on May 13, 1956, in Columbus, GA, to the late Clifford E. and Betty Grimes. Bill graduated from Carver High School in 1974. His passion for learning and commitment to education led him to Columbus State University, formerly Columbus College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Furthering his education, he received a Master's Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, reflecting his lifelong dedication to his faith and scholarly pursuits.

Immediately following graduation, Bill imparted knowledge and wisdom as a fifth-grade teacher at Presbyterian Day School in Clarksdale, Mississippi for five years. His influence on his students was profound, instilling in them not only academic knowledge but also the values of integrity and compassion. Later, Bill held several sales positions in various settings and ultimately transitioned to a successful position at Mimaki, where he was known for his personable nature and his ability to connect with his colleagues.

In his personal life, Bill was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 37 years, Ruth Grimes. Their marriage was a beautiful example of mutual support and affection. He was also a proud father to his daughter, Mary Catherine Wysong (Chris), who gave him the joy of being a grandfather to Ansley Paige, and to a second grandchild due in October. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Brent Grimes, Sr. (Laura), niece, Whitley Fleenor (James), nephew Charles Brent Grimes, Jr., and numerous cousins. They shared in many family gatherings that were filled with laughter and love.

Bill's interests were as unique as they were diverse. A long-time amateur Ham radio enthusiast, he found joy in connecting with others across the airwaves, sharing stories, and forging friendships. His love for history was evident in his participation as a Confederate and Revolutionary War reenactor, where he brought the past to life with enthusiasm and respect for his heritage. Bill was also passionate about learning the art of self-defense having earned an advanced green belt in Krav Maga.

A man of faith, Bill's commitment to the study of the Bible was unwavering. He often taught and shared insights to anyone with a listening ear, insights that were both thought-provoking and spiritually enriching. His ability to weave his knowledge of scripture into everyday life was an inspiration to those around him.

To those who knew him, Bill was the epitome of a loving and family-oriented man. He touched many lives with his kindness, friendly nature, and genuine interest in the well-being of others. His legacy is one of love, faith, and an enduring zest for life that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
