Annette Corley Obituary

Annette Hardage Corley, 81, of Columbus, GA died Monday, June 25, 2018 at Brookside Glen.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Judy Hay officiating. A private family interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Corley was born May 28, 1937 in Butler, GA daughter of the late Harper Lee Hardage and Alice Peterman Hardage. She retired from the Georgia Department of Labor as Field Services Manager in the Columbus local office. She was a member of the Columbus Jaycettes from 1961-1965 and participated in numerous community projects and served on many committees.

For several years she was a Hostess for the Miss Georgia Pageant. She along with her husband, Frank, served as a Judge in the 1974 Miss Valdosta Pageant. She was a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Personnel Association where she served on many committees. She served on the Board of the Columbus Urban League.

Annette was a member of Edgewood United Methodist Church and was Chairperson of the Altar Guild and member of the United Methodist Women's Service-Circle Group, the March of Dimes, Heart Fund, Cancer Crusade, and other charitable organizations freely called upon her for services.

Annette joined the Georgia Department of Labor, Columbus Local Office staff in 1956 as an immediate clerk and worked up the ladder of leadership and accomplishments to become Field Services Manager. She retired in 1989.

She was an active member of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES) from 1956-1989 and was honored for her many accomplishments. In 1969, she served as Area III Representative and received the award for Highest Area Participation, 1973 Miller Merit Award for Achievement and Excellence of Professional Service-winning First Place in the State and fourth place in the International, Portland, Oregon, and in 1986- Georgia Department of Labor Manger of the Year award.

Annette was a 1955 graduate of Baker High School where she met her beloved husband of 48 years, Frank Corley. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife and a very loving and caring mother to her son, Jeff. Her family was always of the utmost importance to her. She will be endlessly missed by her close family members and her beloved friends. She will also be remembered for her many years of work as a public servant.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Corley and brother, Charles Marlin Hardage of Buena Vista, GA.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Corley of Columbus, GA, "adopted" daughter, Wendy Chipman (Dean) of Columbus, GA, companion, Hersey Sumner of Columbus, GA, sister-in-law, Gloria Hardage of Buena Vista, GA, numerous nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

While she is no longer with us here on Earth, we know she is forever captured in the memories we created with her. Thank you for all of the memories and smiles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association 5156 River Rd. M. Columbus, GA 31904.
