Claude Fox Obituary
Early Saturday morning, September 15, 2018, Claude (Sonny) Casey Fox loving husband, devoted father of two, and dear friend to many passed away at age 82.
Claude was born on September 1, 1936 in Dawson, GA to Claude and Lennie Fox. He attended North Georgia College and later received his undergraduate and a Master's in Business degrees from Auburn University. He spent a long career in textiles as a Chief Financial Officer; and also was a professor, an engaged member of the community and actively involved in his church, First Baptist Church-Columbus.
In 1961, after a very brief courtship, he married the love of his life, Anne Holland Fox. They raised two daughters, Amelia and Betsey. Sonny was a friend to everyone he knew. And everywhere he went he made a new friend. He brought peace, comfort and laughter to many people in his 82 years. Claude was never in a hurry. He savored life, a good steak, and a glass of scotch. He read the detailed descriptions in museums. He learned new skills with focus and determination. He kept meticulous records of anything he thought important. He loved fishing and hunting. He loved his Auburn Tigers. Adored his friends and his family. He's known as the sweetest and kindest man many people knew.
Sonny was preceded in death by his father, Claude, his mother, Lennie, and his brothers Edral and George. He is survived by his adored wife Anne, his daughter Amelia, her husband Mark and their son Noah, and his daughter Betsey, her husband Kirk, and their children Holland and Fox, along with a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, and honorary family members.
We are so thankful for the dedicated support and caring of the team of Doctors who cared for Claude this summer to include Dr. Reinaldo Verson who caught that something was terribly wrong; Dr. Mukesh Kumar, our oncologist who cared for Claude and worked to manage the cancer, and Dr. Hunter Champion who showed tremendous heart and caring while fiercely helping Claude battle a newly diagnosed heart issue.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at First Baptist Church on 212 12th St, Columbus, GA at 3 o'clock p.m. with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary before the service at 2 o'clock p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church, 212 12th St, Columbus, GA 31901 or the charity of your choice.
