Dorothy Dimter Obituary

Dorothy MacIver Dimter, 94, passed away peacefully at the Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA on June 5, 2017.

Born in Penndel, PA, she was the daughter of Emma and William MacIver. She and her husband, the late Howard Dimter, her husband of 67 years, resided in Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia.

Known as Dot, Dottie, Mema, Grandmom, Mother, Mom and Friend, she enjoyed meeting new people, exploring nature, traveling through the US, and her cats. She was an excellent cook and baker, famous for her French Apple pie. She also enjoyed writing and recently completed a collection of short stories reflecting her love of family and the joy and humor she found in life.

Dot was employed by James Archer Smith Hospital, Homestead, FL, as an EKG technician before retirement and was a life member of the Jesse W. Soby Post American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Trubey, Jane Lersch, and Kathy Schmidt, she is survived by her sister Barbara Grant, St. Petersburg, FL; a son Howard Dimter (Sandra) Fredericksburg, VA; two daughters Nancy Messick (Bill) New Hope, PA, Kim Duncan (Kenny) Pine Mountain, GA; eight grandchildren: Howard Dimter (Julianna), Matt Dimter (Francine), Ben Maxwell (Stephanie), Christopher Messick (Karen), Jennifer Zimmermann (Andrew), Angie Messick, Benjamin Duncan, and Michael Duncan. She was also very proud of her ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Friends are invited to offer a prayer of thanks for this long and happy life.
