Haskell Hill Obituary

Haskell "Hal" Hill, Jr., 64, of Talbotton, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Born in Griffin, GA, he was the son of Haskell Hill and Georgie Mae Queen. In addition to his father and mother he was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Georgia Mae Hill, and his brothers, Maynard Hill and Elliott Hill.

Hal Hill was a giant of a man, yet his physical height was matched inch-for-inch by his giant heart and caring spirit. He spent years on "hobbies." More like skill-sets, he was never satisfied with his knowledge. There was always more to learn about fishing, radio controlled planes, full-sized planes, skeet shooting, woodworking, and so much more. He spent as much time sharing his knowledge as he spent refining it. Add one of his five children or the wife he met on the school bus to any of these activities and he was thrilled. His family grew as his kids were married and instead of in-laws he gained more children to love as his own, and grandchildren to love most of all.

Hal's faithfulness defined him as much as his love for family. He believed in giving without praise. Over the years he went on mission trips around the world to help build for those in need. He would organize the construction and remodeling of homes in secret. He even funded the building of an orphanage in Central America when he sold one of his businesses. His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the unknown fruits of his kindnesses.

Hal's loving survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol S. Hill; their children: Stephen Hill (Leigh) of Indianapolis, IN, David Hill of LaGrange, GA, Janice Canedo (Jose`) of Columbus, GA, Patrick Hill (Mackenzie) of San Antonio, TX and Katy Howard (Spencer) of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren: Alex Hill, Owen Hill, Clay Hill, Ezra Howard and Jax Canedo; his sister, Linda Brown of Griffin, GA; brother, Chris Hill (Patricia) of Griffin, GA; sisters-in-law Rosemary Walden of Griffin and Sandra Hill of Huntsville, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Hal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Evangel Temple, 5350 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904 with Rev. Paul Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, GA. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service.
