Jacqueline Marcotte Obituary

Jacqueline "Jackie" Miller Marcotte of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully in Chattanooga, TN on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was 87.

Jackie was born on April 16, 1930 in Pacific Grove, CA, the daughter of the late Ward DeVerne Miller and Annie Hewitson Miller. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, LTC (Ret.) Louis "Lou" H. Marcotte, her parents and her sister, Marilyn.

She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Martin of Columbus, GA, Martha Edwards of Crawfordville, FL and Linda O'Brien Riggs (Mike Riggs) of Chattanooga, TN, and son, Louis "Lou" H. Marcotte, Jr. (Patricia) of Atlanta, GA. Jackie is also survived by her five grandchildren, including first grandchild, Jeannice Hall (who was raised by Lou and Jackie), Joseph Marcotte, Robert Marcotte, Alyson Martin and Stephen O'Brien, and other family members.

As a young lady, Jackie spent her days beachcombing on her beloved Monterey Peninsula, relishing in the Lone Cypress, morning fog, Monarch butterflies, tide pools and natural beauty of the California coastline. She shared her feisty spirit by being a cheerleader for Pacific Grove High School and Community College. While serving as a secretary at Fort Ord, CA she met Lou at a dance on base and they married on July 10, 1955. This catapulted her to life as an Army wife, that included living and traveling around the world. After Lou completed 30 years of military service, they retired from Fort Benning and supported the Columbus community through the Better Business Bureau of West Georgia and East Alabama, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Military Order of World Wars (MOWW).

She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where she served as a Greeter and Eucharistic minister. She was also a long-time member of the Windsor Park Garden Club and Green Island Country Club.
Jackie was the consummate hostess. She was the first to volunteer to welcome and entertain friends, family and neighbors where her parties would always include careful planning, a meticulously thought out and homemade meal, and perfect attention to every detail.

Jackie selflessly served others whether it was through her children's and grandchildren's numerous activities, or by simply sending the perfectly scripted card to brighten someone's day. Most importantly, Jackie will be remembered as a woman who was eternally-devoted to her faith and family, and always took a moment to search for the "Man in the Moon."
