Judith Joiner Obituary
Judith "Judy" Joiner (Smith) 82, of Tampa, Fl. returned to her heavenly home on March 6 after valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M Friday, March 16, 2018 at The Church of Holy Family with Father Daniel O'Connell officiating. Interment will be held in Riverdale Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following the graveside services at Holy Family Catholic Church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Judy was born to the late Henry Clifford Smith Jr and Ruth Bird Smith, a Pharmacist and a homemaker respectively, in Columbus, Georgia on September 2, 1935. Judy attended Huntingdon College in Alabama. Her dream of finding a soulmate and creating a family were realized when she married Carey Preston Joiner Jr on September 3, 1955. For the next 62 years the two were inseparable. For 32 years they traveled the globe following the needs of Carey's military service, and in each new region Judy found friends and service to others as a calling. Judy was a refined lady of the household and hostess at heart. Her charm and hospitality were legend wherever they traveled. The couple frequently hosted military families overseas, sharing meals and merriment. Judy embraced her role as an ambassador of goodwill and unity in these far-flung locations. A devoted mother and wife Judy leaves a legacy of love and memories of grace in all circumstances.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Brother, Henry Clifford Smith III (Sonny); Brother Joseph Bird Smith.
Judy is survived by husband, Carey; their daughter Elizabeth (Brooke) DeFranco and her husband Jason, Sister in law Harriet Coulter Smith, Sister in law Barbara Ellison Smith, Nephews Mike, Scotty, Jody, and Greg; nieces Susan and Ellison, and 11 grandnieces and nephews.
