Karin Elfi Cornett, 73 a long-time resident of Columbus, Ga. died Wednesday the 29th of November at St. Francis hospital.

Born in 1944, in Standesamt Breslau, Germany. As a young girl, her education was extremely important to her, as was her faith. Born during World War II she escaped communist Germany with her parents living several years of her young life as a refugee. This experience would profoundly affect her the rest of her life, shaping her into one who valued the most simple things in life, family. She met the father of her children at the tender age of 16, was married and moved to the United States where she remained until she passed.
In the late 70's she was hired as the Lab Supervisor with St. Francis hospital later seeking and landing a job with Civil Service as an Administrative Assistant with various Infantry Regiments, and medically retired after 19 years of dedicated service. She has various honors and awards bestowed upon her during her service to the Military.
In her later years, she lived with her daughter and her family due to a life altering illness. She was a very happy, fulfilled Oma and Mom to everyone who enter the home to where she lived. She had a passion for animals that followed her during her entire life, and has seemingly passed that down to her children.
She is survived by her son David G. Phillips, Sr. (Pam), her Daughter Michelle L. Brown-Mang (James), her four grandchildren David G. Phillips Jr. (Whitney), Rachael D. Phillips, Jason L. Brown and Miranda L. Brown, as well as two Great grands David,III and Benjamin Phillips.
In honor of those who loved her unconditionally as family, we extended our heartfelt thank you to Randy L. Brown, Jennifer Andrews, Ursula Chelar, Dagmar Shytle, Pamela Reddish, Allison Steinbach, Nancy Boren as well as the St. Francis CVU staff particularly Dr. Michael Metry, Anthony and Brandy.
