Lynn Harp Obituary

Lynn Mason Waller Harp quietly answered the most recent call of her Lord in Columbus, GA on January 25, 2020 at the age of 80.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jacob L. Franklin, Sr. officiating. A private interment will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Cusseta, Ga. A Visitation will be held Tuesday January 28, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga., 31907.

Lynn was born July 1, 1939 the youngest of four daughters born to Hugh & Lauree Mason Waller in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Atlanta in 1957 and in 1958, while attending LaGrange College, she answered her first calling when she met and married her husband of 61 years, Olin L. Harp. She then graduated from the University of Georgia in 1963 and together, they made their home in Cusseta, GA. Her second calling began with the birth of her daughter Kathryn, her daughter Vivian and the adoption of her son Bradley. Her next calling was to teach children; she began her career in 1968 where she served families of the military and their children at Fort Benning until retiring after 30 years in 1999. Lynn's calling to teach children did not end with the school day or the school year and certainly did not end with retirement. She was devoted to her Lord and eagerly taught Sunday School, Saturday School, and included missions trips to teach children in other nations. Lynn embraced teaching her grandchildren, Hannah and Sam Van Horn, Kaitlyn and Brendon Harp, and Garrett Brust.

Aside from church activities, she enjoyed reading (especially to children), board games, flowers, decorating, and the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. The greatest lesson she ever taught was the life she lived. She invested in children and Our Lord has now called her to her reward.

Her parents, Hugh and Lauree Waller of Atlanta, GA and her sisters Gaye Kitchen of Atlanta, GA, Gene Owens of Atlanta, GA, and Mimi Powell of Mobile, AL precede her in death.

She leaves behind her husband Olin, her daughters Kathryn Harp Van Horn (Ken) of Cusseta, GA, Vivian Harp Brust (Vince) of Summerville, SC, son Bradley Waller Harp (Kelly) of Phenix City, AL, and her 5 grandchildren: Hannah Van Horn, Sam Van Horn, Katelynn Harp, Brenden Harp, and Garrett Brust.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the John B. Amos Cancer Center 1831 5th Avenue, Columbus, GA. 31904.
