Marc Phillips Obituary
Marc Devore Phillips, 65, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Piedmont Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA.
A private memorial service, with military honors, will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Minister Nathan Diller officiating. Interment will be at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, those attending the memorial service will be required to wear a face mask and social distancing will be in effect.
Marc was born April 10, 1955 in Porterville, CA to the late Michael Phillips and Voncile Devore Phillips. In 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army and later transitioned to the United States Coast Guard. After seventeen years of military service, Marc enjoyed a variety of jobs, including work on a boat marina and as a dive instructor. In 2008, Marc began his career as a government contract employee in Ft. Benning, from which he retired in 2017.
Marc had a passion for the ocean and loved surfing, scuba diving, and fishing. He also was an accomplished woodworker, creating beautiful works of art, including pens, bowls, and clocks from hardwoods. Additionally, Marc loved his family and pets. A true pet rescuer, he gave a home to many dogs, fish, rodents, and reptiles. He will be missed by his wife of fourteen years and his doggies: Lucy, Mylo, and Mollie.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Phillips, brothers, Mike Phillips and Mitch Phillips.Survivors include his loving wife, Lisa Phillips of Columbus, GA, daughter, Mindy Phillips of California, step-daughter, Cathryn Willmschen of Columbus, GA, grand-daughter, Monica Garcia of California, numerous nieces and nephews.
