Pauline Britto Obituary

Pauline "Betty" Elizabeth Britto, 93, died Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Betty was a former Springer Theatre board president, and a former Managing Director of the Springer Opera House School of Theatre Arts (now the Springer Academy) and actress.
Betty was part of the intrepid group of Columbus Little Theater players that embarked on the herculean task of restoring the Springer and creating a vibrant home for theatre in Columbus. Once up and running and being named the state theatre in Georgia, they set their sights on creating a school to train actors for the growing opportunities to perform on the stage.

Her love of the theatre was boundless and performing was her passion. Betty was seen in countless leading roles from her early days at the Ft. Benning Theatre to the Springer. She was also a guest artist at the University of Georgia, Columbus State University (then Columbus College), West Virginia State, The Playhouse Theatre in Mendon, NY and Stages in Atlanta. Besides talent and study at the Greet Academy in Washington D.C., a key to her success as an actress was her firm belief that every role at its moment of creation for the actress, is the most important theatre experience in her life.

Betty's talents extended to other art forms including metal jewelry work and play writing. She graduated from high school at age 14 and well into adulthood she graduated Phi Kappa Phi from Columbus College. Betty was a terrific golfer, who along with her husband LTC (Ret) George Britto delighted in teaming up and beating people half their age.

Betty was born in Walden, New York state May 7, 1924, and raised there and in Connecticut until she married. Military life brought her and her husband to Columbus where they eventually retired and settled. Betty is preceded in death by her husband and survived by her daughter Darby Britto.
