Shirley Trafzer Obituary

Shirley Jane Trafzer nee' Workman, age 75, departed Saturday, June 06, 2020, at her residence in Phenix City, Alabama. She was surrounded by her loved ones, with many more on the way to be by her side.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 9th, 2020, at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with the Chaplain Ed Haag officiating who prayed for her during her last days. Shirley was born February 13th, 1945 in Seth, West Virginia, to the late Arnold Emory Workman and Arizona Jane Workman nee' Donley, She will be remembered affectionately for her quick wit and comedic timing. Shirley Jane "Nana" Trafzer also had a capacity for love, compassion, and generosity that so few could comprehend, except of course for those who were so fortunate to truly know and love her. To them, the infinite reaches of her love were fact, nothing to be debated, nor questioned. She was an avid Women's Rights Activist, demanding that the world value her as much as anyone else by demanding her equal pay become contingent upon a work performance review, ensuring that no one could take that victory away from her. In her mid- sixties, she became a guard at a men's medium security youth detention facility, where she excelled in gaining respect from the young men, by herself treating them with respect, compassion, and commitment to bettering the person she saw in front of her. Shirley proved that love, in its infinite forms, is always the answer. Her message was simple: Love is love, family is family, and no child should ever go hungry.

She was preceded in death by her children, Paul Arnold Martin, Linda Martin, Gregory Novak, and Candy Renee' Trafzer- Bancroft, her parents, Arnold Emory Workman and Arizona Jane Workman, and her husband, Robert James Trafzer.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Linda Sue Dickens-Thacker of Houston, TX, brothers, Jerry Lee Workman of Waddy, KY, Darrol Emory Workman of Willowick, OH, Theodore Preston Workman of Cleveland, OH, grandchildren, Summer Renee' Sanner of Millageville, GA, Cole Thomas Sanner of Memphis, TN, Daisie Jane Bancroft of Amherst, New York, and Paul Christopher Bancroft of Phenix City, AL, great grandchildren, Taryn Riley McDaniel of Charleston, SC, nephews Arnold Kenneth "George" Workman of Houston, TX, Ronnie Lee Kay of Houston, TX, nieces, Paula Gayle Dickens of Houston, TX, Shirlee Jane Dickens-Kay of Houston, TX, great niece Caitlyn Lee Workman of Houston, TX, great-great-nephew Gionni Angel Calles of Houston, TX, great-great-nephew Oliver Anthony Calles of Houston, TX, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Jane Sanner- Edwards of Columbus, GA.
