Vernon West Obituary
Vernon R. West, Jr., 68, of Columbus, GA, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Mike Reeves and Rev. Jimmy Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. West was born November 26, 1948 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Vernon R. West Sr. and Aralee Goodwin West. He was in the Army Reserves in Opelika, AL for 10 years, was an electrician for the city of Columbus for 37 years and was a softball coach in Harris County. Vernon never met a stranger. He was very funny, loved listening to gospel music, fishing, gardening; enjoyed nature and the mountains. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, Auburn Football and enjoyed boxing. He was a member of Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda G. West of Columbus, GA; daughters, Leah McTaggart (Ken) of Columbus, GA, Laura Eddins (Mike) of Dothan, AL and Lindsay West of Midland, GA; sisters, Linda Chandler (Jerry) of Columbus, GA and Faye Cain (Gerald) of Midland, GA; 2 grandchildren, Kristen Phillips (Brent) of Phenix City, AL and Weston Eddins of Dothan, AL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Family wishes to express their appreciation to the Doctors and Staff at Emory University Hospital and Columbus Hospice House and a special thank you to Dr. Jack R. Ross and Staff and the many other Doctors for the care given to Mr. West.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to the Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
