William Weinbender Obituary

Retired Lt. Col. William A. Weinbender, 87, died Thursday, December 13, 2018 at his residence in Columbus, GA.
Full Military Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA.
Lt. Col. Weinbender was born November 8, 1931 in Utica, N.Y. son of the late William L. and Leona Burton Weinbender. He graduated from The Manlius School in Manlius, N.Y. and The University of Pennsylvania, where he received a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served as an Army Aviator and Logistics officer for over 20 years, retiring in 1975. Lt. Col. Weinbender was married to Peggy Herrnbredle Weinbender, who preceded him in death along with his grandson, Steven Dobarzynski.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Cecelia Jones Weinbender of Columbus, GA, son Fritz Weinbender of Columbus, GA, daughters, Katie Yates (Luckey) of Milledgeville, GA, Nancy Winget (Kingston) of Yorktown, VA. and Ann Lester (John) of Troy, AL, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two stepchildren, Marcia Stone (Rick) of Suwanee, GA, Melanie Madden (Rich) of Gainesville, GA, one step-grandchild and special caregiver, Deborah Gruber of Columbus, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be sent to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (www.curealz.org), the National MS Society (www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/GAA), or the USO (www.uso.org).
