Albert Thurman Thornton, Jr., 84, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Columbus Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Jimbo Albrecht and Rev. Patrick Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Thornton was born November 23, 1932 in Columbus, GA son of the late Albert Thurman Thornton, Sr. and Margaret Cooksey Thornton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served for 3 years and then worked at McKession and Robbins Wholesale Drug Company and US Steel Agri Chemicals Co. Mr. Thornton then retired from TSYS as the Safety and Security Manager.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Thornton Overdiek and brothers, Walter Gilbert Thornton and Charles Michael Thornton.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby White Thornton, sons, Kenneth B. Thornton (Nancy) and Timothy O. Thornton (MaryEllen), sisters, Mary Thornton Fell and Imogene Thornton, grandchildren, Ashley Elias (Manny), Jared Thornton (Melissa), Nicole Cavanaugh (Michael) and Tiffany Thornton, and great grandchildren, Aiden Elias and Audrianna Elias.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund 2913 Reese Rd. Columbus, GA 31907.
