Barbara Jean Folmar

Barbara Jean “Jeanie” Folmar, née Jacks, also known as "Mom," "Mamaw," "Grammy," or "Gigi," passed peacefully at her home in Midland, Georgia, on July 11, 2026, from natural causes associated with Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. She was 85 years old. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on May 30, 1941, Barbara embraced the world around her, leaving behind a legacy etched with kindness, friendship, laughter, and the love of Jesus.

Barbara’s life was intricately woven with love for family, faith, and everyday wonders that inspired joy. Her childhood in California shaped her resilience and independence—strengths she passed on to her progeny. Her journey led her to Alaska, where she raised her family and enjoyed a career with the State of Alaska, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, until her well-earned retirement. She ultimately settled in Georgia, spending her final years making memories with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker at heart, taking great pride in nurturing those she loved. There was a seat at Barbara's table for anyone who stopped by, and many did. She ensured her children started each day with a hot breakfast, and ended with dinner around the family table. She poured her love into her family—sewing dresses for her daughters, composing silly songs to mark occasions both joyous and bittersweet, and scribbling notes in her secret code, challenging loved ones to guess the message (sometimes, even she couldn’t remember the answer). Even after we moved away from home, her heart was never far:  she was a loving presence for the arrival of all six of her grandchildren and flew across continents to support her daughters through life's events.

Barbara experienced life with an awe that transformed ordinary moments into memories charged with meaning. She was a lover of nature, finding magic in a simple leaf, the curl of a rose petal, or a butterfly fluttering by - never hurrying past life’s small treasures, much to the amusement (and occasional impatience) of those who accompanied her. Her affection for her dogs was well-known, and Oscar, her beloved “fourth child,” often joined her on adventures to the park or to the drive-thru for a cheeseburger.

Her faith was made evident through acts of compassion and exuberant song. She shared her love of Jesus with those around her. She loved the old church hymns, and would still hum the tunes when the lyrics were lost from memory. She met the unexpected with curiosity, sought the meaning behind life’s twists, and told stories that will be repeated for future generations. Barbara nurtured genuine friendships with a listening ear, an empathetic heart, and an open door. She was incredibly patriotic, and proud of her sons-in-law and three grandchildren who served, or are serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Above all, Barbara cherished her family. Watching her children grow into “moderately responsible” adults, and then witnessing them raise families of their own was her greatest accomplishment and deepest joy. 

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Kathaleen Miller and Krystal Glassen; her sons-in-law, John E. Miller and Paul Glassen; her beloved grandchildren, Alana (Jonathan) Magee, Madison (Codey) Doehrmann, John W. Miller, Emily Glassen, Christopher Glassen, and Tristan (Alyssa) Glassen; and seven great-grandchildren, Timmy, Elijah, Cadyn, Kylie, Elwin, Ezra and Tabbi - plus one on the way. Each of us carries a spark of her enduring spirit.

She was greeted in heaven by her son, Kenneth Folmar Jr.; her mother, Margaret Triplett; her brother, Earl Jacks; and her dog, Oscar.

Barbara’s story is a reminder of the grace found in small acts, unwavering devotion, and everyday courage. Her laughter, appreciation of beauty found in simple things, and her quiet strength live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.  

The family wishes express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Inhabit Hospice for their compassionate care in Mom's final weeks. We are also grateful to Christ Community Church of Columbus, Georgia and their Hospitality Team for their guidance and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Community Church, 4078 Milgen Road, Columbus, Georgia.

She loved the colors purple and yellow, as well as florals, so dress accordingly. All are welcomed to attend.
