Barbara Keefer

Barbara Joann Keefer, age 91, was born January 6, 1935 in Lagrange, GA to the late William Leonard Sewell and Agnes Bell Lane Sewell.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM EST, Thursday, April 30, 2026, in the Pavillion at Riverdale Cemetery located at 1000 Victory Drive Columbus, GA according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga 31907.

Barbara was a devote member of Rose Hill Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, nurturing the spiritual growth of countless children and families. Beyond the classroom, she had a love for cooking. She shared this love for cooking with others writing a cookbook and in a true act of generosity, donating all the proceeds to Rose Hill Methodist Church. This tremendous act of kindness allowed the church to become a safe house.

She will be remembered for her selflessness, generous spirit, and the quiet but powerful ways she gave to others. She had a great love and respect for all forms of life to include animals. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched both human and animal alike.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, John Keefer of Columbus, GA and Donald William Keefer (Leann) of Kingston, PA, 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, and by her beloved caregiver, Lisa Cook of Columbus, GA.

She is preceded in death by her daughters Esther “Wendy” Harmon and Karen Katherine Keefer.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in memory of Barbara Keefer to Columbus Hospice House.
