Benita H
Blanton
Jan 14, 1968 — Jul 23, 2026
Columbus, GA
Benita Hannaman Blanton, affectionately known as "Nita," passed away on July 23rd, 2026. While her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, her memory will live on through the love she shared and the countless memories she leaves behind.
Born on January 14, 1968, to Benny and Carol Pilcher, Nita grew up in Columbus, Georgia. An athlete from a young age, she enjoyed playing softball throughout her childhood and teenage years. She attended Shaw High School before continuing her education at Columbus College. She later found her calling as a middle school teacher, dedicating her career to helping and encouraging young minds.
Family was an important part of Nita's life. She especially loved watching her children play sports, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on from the sidelines. She also found peace at the beach, especially in Destin, Florida, where some of her favorite memories were made. A devoted Auburn Tigers fan, she looked forward to football season each year and enjoyed cheering on the Tigers.
Nita is survived by her daughter, Caroline Lamb (Casey); her sons, Chandler Blanton (Lauren), Cameron Hannaman, and Chad Blanton; her grandchildren, Barrett and Benlee Lamb; Jerry Blanton; her mother, Carol Pilcher; her sister, Kim Kelley; her nephew, Tre Kelley; and many extended family members and friends who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Benny Pilcher.
Nita will be remembered for the many roles she held throughout her life—as a daughter, mother, NiNi, teacher, sister, aunt, and friend. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and the moments shared with her will be treasured for years to come.
