Gran
Feb 27, 1947 — Jul 30, 2026
Brenda Joliene Nix Gran, lovingly known as “Gran”, departed this world on July 30, 2026, at Piedmont Columbus Regional - Northside Hospital in Columbus, GA, following a brief illness.
Born on February 27, 1947, in Columbus, GA, Brenda was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas Nix and Quida Nix Moseley. Brenda's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and a deep commitment to those she held dear. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 41 years, Dr. Donald "Don" F. Gran Jr., her parents, and her brother, Thomas Roy Nix. Brenda was the proud and loving mother of her only son, Wayne Gayles, and his wife Kristi. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Raegan, Calvin Gayles (and his wife Allie), and Molly Gayles, as well as her great-granddaughter, Adeline Gayles, who brought immense joy to her heart.
Brenda is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ruthie Shemwell (Tom), her brothers-in-law, John Gran (Sara) and Tommy Gran, several nieces, and a nephew. A graduate of Jordan High School, Brenda later pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Her professional life was dedicated to supporting the educational pursuits of others, as she retired from Palmer Chiropractor College, where she served as a Scholarship Coordinator and Repayment Specialist in Financial Planning at their Davenport, IA, and Port Orange, FL, campuses. Brenda's passions extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid reader, finding solace and adventure in the pages of countless books. Her love of nature was evident in her enthusiastic support of wildlife conservation. As a devoted bird lover and volunteer Whale and Dolphin Tracker off the coast of Florida, she reveled in the beauty of the natural world.
Known for her witty humor and warm smile, Brenda's kindness and generosity were the hallmarks of her character. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, whose love and support were unwavering. Her presence will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service to honor Brenda's life will be held on August 4, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, an organization whose mission aligns with Brenda's generous spirit. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Piedmont Northside Campus for their compassionate care during Brenda's final days.
Brenda Joliene Nix Gran's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
