Bryan B. Sargent

Bryan Blackburn Sargent, lovingly known as:” Big B”, “Turtle”, or “Pop-Pop”, of Columbus, GA shuffled to his heavenly home the morning of Thursday August 20th at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.

Bryan was born in 1944 in Newnan, Ga, son of Henry David and Fannie Cole Blackburn. He had two siblings, George and Francis, both preceded him in death.

In 1966 Bryan heard the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He went through basic training at Parris Island and he spent 13 months serving in Vietnam.

In 1968, he married the love of his life, Ellen Pettie, and is now reunited with her in heaven. They were married 48 years and had two sons, Chris and Rick, and a daughter-in-law, Amy.

He is remembered for his love of Jesus and quickness to quote God’s Word to encourage others and bring hope. He credited His Savior, A.A., friends and family with his over 30 years sobriety and “gave back” by ministering to others.

He was an active member of St. Luke Church and member of Agape Sunday School, served in Respite Care and mentorship programs, member of Friday Friar's, an active lay leader in Walk of Emmaus and other many other ministries.

Bryan was a kind and joyful friend, husband, father, and granddad who adored his granddaughters, or ”the ladies” as he called them: Layna, Suzanna, and Eliza.

Memorial service will be held Saturday August 29th at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Church in Columbus, GA with Reverend Thad Haygood officiating. A visitation will follow service in Stockwell Hall according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
