Carmen A. Lopez, 98, of Cataula, GA passed away September 28, 2026, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 5, 2026, in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery following the service.

Carmen was born May 4, 1928, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Jorge Lopez and Ana Medina Lopez. She had a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education and served for many years as a special needs teacher. She was married for over 50 years to the late William Freytes Martinez an economist for the US Deptartment of Commerce.

Survivors include her children, Lizbeth Freytes Lugo (Alberto) of Cataula, GA, Janet Freytes Devers (Mike) of Orlando, FL, and her grandchildren, Werner H. Lugo (Jaqueline Lopez) of Japan and Mark C. Lugo (Carol) of Atlanta, GA.
