Charles A. Yancey, 82, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Jonathan Badgett and Mr. Butch Wheeler officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Yancey was born December 1, 1936 in Atlanta, GA son of the late James Alex Yancey and Louise White Yancey. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served for 28 years as a Sergeant First Class. He loved fishing, golf, Georgia Tech football, the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons and his pet bulldogs at home.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sandra Roberson Yancey of Columbus, GA, children, Dennis Yancey (Tina) of Dallas, GA, Craig Yancey (Elaine) of Alabaster, AL, Diane Yancey Hart (Dave) of Salisbury, NC, Luke Yancey (Kelly) of Midland, GA and Andy Ring (Shannon) of Monticello, GA, brother, Jimmy Yancey (Alice) of Ft. Mill, SC, 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart and Lung Association 55 W. Wacker Dr. Suite 1150 Chicago, IL 60601 or to the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
