Retired Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Orlando Gallardo Castaing, 71, peacefully passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 surrounded by his family members.
Services will be held 5:00 PM Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Mike Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
He was born on September 2, 1947 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Luis Manuel Gallardo and Ana Matilde Castaing. CSM Gallardo proudly served his country from 1967-1993 in Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm and Gulf War. His many decorations and recognitions include: Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Air Medal (3rd Award), Bronze Star Medal (1st OLC), Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd OLC), Special Forces Tab, Pathfinders Badge, Parachutist Badge, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal. In addition to his military service, he retired from AFLAC after 23 years and was a multilingual translator for the Muscogee County Courts for 25 years.
CSM Gallardo was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Reddys Gallardo and Hanny Gallardo.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Davis Gallardo, children Orlando Gallardo Jr. (Lourdes), Olga Gallardo, Irma Woodard (Lance), Orlando Gallardo, Luis Gallardo, Sandra Gallardo, Rusti Lewandowski, and Lewis Lewandowski (Jessica). Grandchildren: Cynthia, Lorenzo, Alejandro (Lorraine), Laura, Diego, Victoria, Lance, Amaia, Libertad, Angel, Addyson, Cayden, Masan, Carson and Hunter. Great-grandchildren: Abigail and Axel Daniel.
