Danny LaRue Daniels, affectionately known to many as DD, Ol Coot, and Papa, left a void in our hearts with his passing on April 21, 2026, in Newnan, GA. Born on September 24, 1953, in Phenix City, AL, Danny’s life was marked by unwavering dedication, heartfelt kindness, and an infectious spirit that touched all who knew him.

Danny was a beloved son of Brandon Daniels, and Jean and George Matthews, all of whom preceded him in death, along with his cherished wife, Loretta Edwards Daniels. His journey took root in Phenix City, Alabama, and he attended Chavala High School in Seale, AL.

Professionally, Danny served as a lineman with the Tallapoosa River Electric Co-Operative for over 37 years before retiring in 2008. His tenure was characterized not only by his exceptional skills but by a genuine passion for serving his community. A natural leader and mentor, Danny took great pride in guiding others and found profound joy in witnessing their successes. Through these efforts, he forged life-long friendships that were a testament to his generous spirit and integrity.

Beyond his career, Danny was a Godly man who never met a stranger. He radiated love with his whole heart and lightened hearts with his ever-present jokes. His Sundays were sacred, spent attending church and reaching out to help those around him. These qualities endeared him to all who had the privilege of his company.

Danny leaves behind a loving family who carry his legacy forward with affection and respect. His children, Nate Daniels (Elisa) of Phenix City, AL, and Nicki Bartley of Columbus, GA, continue to cherish his memory alongside four grandchildren: Mikel Freeman (Riley), Tatum Gillenwater, Wesley Rose Davis (Aidan), and Dani Bartley. Danny’s legacy also extends to his great-grandchildren Layken Hayes Gillenwater, Miller Lane Davis, and Michael James Freeman-soon to be welcomed into the family.

Also mourning his loss is his wife, Cathy Flournoy Daniels, of Hamilton, GA, daughters, Tammy Fulleton (Kyle) of Hamilton, GA, and Becky Clark (Jarrad) of Columbus, GA, and grandchildren Whitney Fulleton, TJ Clark, Elizabeth Billings (Tulsa), and AJ Fulleton whom he loved as his own; and his sister, Barb Taylor and nephews Randy Taylor (Nicki), David Taylor (Serena), and Craig Taylor (Kirissa), along with two great-nephews and three great-nieces, all lovingly rooted in West Virginia.

The community will gather to honor Danny’s life with a visitation on April 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907. His funeral service will be held the following day, April 25, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at the same location with a graveside service at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Phenix City, AL immediately following.

Danny LaRue Daniels was a man of faith, humor, and boundless heart—a mentor, friend, and beloved family man whose impact will be felt for generations to come. His memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
