David H. "Jack" Buckner, Jr. passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA on December 6, 2016.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 9th at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive visitors after the service at his son's home, 2410 Canter Drive, Phenix City, AL 36867 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Jack was born on October 23, 1928 in McComb, Mississippi to David H. Buckner, Sr. and Susannah Nordan Buckner. Jack graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1946 and studied Business Administration at Columbus College. He was a U.S. Army veteran and dedicated civil service employee at Ft. Benning, Ga. until his retirement in 1988. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. During his lifetime, he was a Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church; and most recently, was a member of Cascade Hills Church. Jack had many friends and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including traveling, boating, and woodworking. He was an avid outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Hodges Buckner, and his youngest son, David Hugh Buckner.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Jan Buckner (Gilmer) of Columbus, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Wayne and Polly Pollock Buckner; two granddaughters Janna Gilmer O'Loughlin (Michael), and Anna Marie Buckner; three grandsons, Zachary Wayne Buckner, Mitchell Gregory Buckner, and Brockton David Buckner; and one great-grandson, Jaxon Michael O'Loughlin, all of Phenix City, AL.
