David Leon Tibbitt, 76, of Layton Utah, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug 26, 2019.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Cascade Hills Church. A private Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, Columbus.
Born in Columbus, Ga. February 24, 1943, to the late Jessie Leon Tibbitt and Bloncile Clark Tibbitt. He lived in Columbus until he realized the borders were open and escaped to the United State Air Force soon after graduation from Jordan High School in 1961. David keep F-105 Thunderchief fighter bombers flying during the Vietnam conflict and was proud of his wartime service. He rose to the rank of Staff Sargent in less than 4 years and began his lifelong love affair with avionics systems on airplanes.
Moving to the private sector David worked for Fairchild Industries, The Ball Corporation, Lockheed Martin and Northrup/Grumman eventually becoming arguably the foremost expert on electronic systems for the A-10 Warthog airplane. "Mr. A-10" was awarded many citations over the years for his work with the Warthog and many a maintenance technician and some pilots happily had their bacon saved by David's expertise.
David's love for his Lord and his family are the only thing that eclipsed his love of the A-10. He was a man whose faith showed in years of faithful service to the church. He was a husband, father, son brother, uncle and friend who was as faithful in these relationships.
He was a tinkerer with anything electronic and a prolific photographer. He was a lifelong learner who loved to share his knowledge with others, especially younger generations. If you had questions about electronics, mathematics or airplanes, David could teach you quite a bit.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth McCormick Tibbitt; his daughter Heather Spencer and her husband John; Son Brian Tibbitt and his wife Danielle; 7 Grand Children, Kaitlyn Martinez and her husband Luis, Kelsey, Judson, Juliana and Melodie Spencer; Riley and Nathan Tibbitt; and two great grandchildren, Remington and Bison. A sister, Martha Hill and her husband Mike and a brother, Howard Tibbitt and his wife Barbara and many nephews and nieces, also survives him.
