Donald McCaghren's Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Donald E. McCaghren passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his home, in his favorite lakeside spot, with his wife, Laura, by his side.

Don was born in Columbus, Georgia, the youngest son of Marlin R. McCaghren and Mary Queen Worthington. At a young age, he began managing McCaghren Service Company following his beloved grandfather "Pop" McCaghren's passing, continuing in that role until his retirement. In later years, he owned and managed both commercial and residential real estate throughout Muscogee and Harris Counties.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years and the love of his life, Laura; his brother, Gary R. McCaghren (Darlene); as well as his cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many in-laws. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Koko Puff, and her canine companions, Simba and Grayson, who loved him dearly.

Don was truly one of a kind—a vibrant personality who lived life out loud. For the past 40 years, he embraced lake life on Lake Harding, where he and Laura created a lifetime of cherished memories filled with love, laughter, family, friends, football (War Eagle!), and a shared affection for their many dogs. He had a deep love for music of all kinds, especially James Brown—his favorite—as well as Metallica, The Isley Brothers, and smooth jazz. Don was also highly creative and talented in renovating and building homes, leaving his mark through his craftsmanship. Blessed with a great sense of humor, Don had a gift for making others laugh—anyone who spent even a few minutes with him could attest to that. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and lived out his faith through generosity, kindness, and compassion. He welcomed family into his home during times of need, always sought to help others, and was known for his forgiving spirit. Don was a beloved husband, brother, brother-in-law and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2026 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Humane Society of Harris County  3958 Barnes Mill Road, Hamilton, Georgia 31811 or www.hsharrisco.org
