Duncan Henderson Williams IV, 41, died October 11, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born August 21, 1985, in Columbus, Georgia, Duncan spent his life making friends, making people laugh, and making sure everyone knew he was an Alabama fan.
Duncan was quick-witted, a talented prankster, and a stranger to absolutely no one. Even the person sitting beside him on a flight could become a friend—though he might first fall asleep on their shoulder. He gave big hugs, kept in touch, and remembered stories in such detail that he could remind you of things you’d forgotten you’d ever done. His friends remember someone who could make anyone laugh, including people who were trying very hard to remain serious.
He loved anything Crimson Tide, World War II books and movies, horror movies, spooky season, and Danny DeVito. He also loved a Camel Rider from Speakeasy in his hometown. During the several years he lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he spent time hiking and skiing and made friends who still remember how much fun it was to have him around.
For all his jokes and pranks, Duncan was kind. He made people feel included, and he was the person so many friends picked up the phone to tell things to. Those phones are going to feel awfully quiet without him.
He is survived by his mother, Rebecca Williams; his sister, Sarah Ham, and her husband, Jonathan; his niece, Grace Ham; his nephew, Carter Ham; his stepmother, Kathy Williams; his grandmothers, Kenneith Calvert and Beverly Williams; his uncle, Mark Williams, and his wife, Laura Lee; and his cousins, Marian, Ellen, Caleb, Blake, Leigh, and Ramona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Duncan Henderson Williams III; his grandfathers, Duncan Henderson Williams Jr. and Gaston Calvert; his grandmother, Marianne Williams; and his uncle, Rembert Williams.
The funeral will be held October 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907. Visitation will follow immediately after the service at the funeral home.
Please wear crimson and white or your Alabama gear to celebrate Duncan. Shirts, ties, and yes, even T-shirts are welcome. He would appreciate the show of support for the Tide.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Charleston Recovery Center, 2578 Ashley River Rd., Unit G, Charleston, SC 29414 or https://www.venmo.com/u/CharlestonRecoveryCenter, donations will help establish a scholarship in Duncan’s name for someone who cannot afford treatment.
