Earnest E. Oats, 60, of Cataula, GA, departed this life on Friday, October 13, 2017 peacefully at home. Earnest was born to Louise and William Oats on June 14, 1957, in Tallahassee, FL.
After moving to Chicago in the early ‘60s, he shared many great memories with his family. In 1977, Earnest joined the Army which was his dream. He was then stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life and best friend of 30 years, Marion, in 1987. They married in 1990 and soon began their journey to Ft. Benning, GA. In 1991 they moved to Harris County where they started and raised a family of three sons.
In his Army Career, Earnest served in Desert Storm in 1991. He also served in Iraq in 2004. Earnest retired from the Army in 2008, after a 20 year career as a Veteran of the United States of America.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Oats of Cataula, GA; 3 sons, Diante Oats of Chicago, IL, Michael Oats of Athens, GA and Dominic Oats of Columbus, GA; mother-in-law, Renate Stegmann of Grossostheim, Germany; father-in-law, Helmut Stegmann of Grossostheim, Germany; 1 grandchild, Cohen Oats of Columbus, GA; a sister, Debra Hollins of Flossmoor, IL; brother-in-law, Dr. Edwin Hollins of Flossmoor, IL; a niece, Jamila Hollins of New York, NY; 2 nephews, Edwin Hollins, Jr of Flossmoor, IL and Jamaal Hollins of Flossmoor, IL and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Oats Linzy and William Oats and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Earnest E. Oats was a loved and honored man by many. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
