Eleanor Clark White, 84, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday July 21, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. There will also be a Celebration of Life from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at St. Peter Church, 6507 Moon Rd, Columbus, GA 31909.
Eleanor was born January 2, 1941 in Houston County, AL to the late Merlin Clark and Tempie Meadows Clark. Her entire life was marked by sacrificial service to others. At age 16, after her father's death, she began working to help support her family. Later she went to night school and earned her GED and then a nursing degree. She worked many years as a nurse at West Central Georgia Hospital. For her work there, she earned Nurse of the Year. Eleanor also loved and served her friends. An excellent cook, Eleanor never missed an opportunity to bless someone with a creation from her kitchen. (Her turkey and dressing and caramel cake are unrivaled.) Eleanor's greatest service was to her family. She was the best wife and best mother EVER- best mother to the children she birthed and to the children she adopted. Her friends and family miss her so much, but we are confident that she entered Glory and heard, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter: Mrs. Laura White Watkins, her sister: B J Scott, and her brother: Jim Clark. Survivors include her husband: Larry E. White of Columbus, GA, daughters: Kristin Huey (Chip) and Lisa Schwartz both of Fortson, GA., son: Jesse Bryant White of Columbus, GA, sisters: Bridie Jarrett of Columbus, GA and Beverly Hall of Dothan, AL, brother: William David Clark (Bonnie) of Opelika, AL, grandchildren: Gabe Watkins, Sarah Gauthier, Emily McCormick, Ana “Isa” Huey, Samuel Huey, Ethan Huey, Nathan Huey, Seth Huey, and Jonah Huey, and great grandchildren: Avery Watkins, Nova Watkins, and Sawyer McCormick.
