Elizabeth Leath Stigler Pearce, 72, of Waverly Hall, GA, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 AM, November 22, 2017 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Pearce was born June 1, 1945 in Birmingham, AL to the late Dr. Stephen L. Stigler and Ruth Ratliff Stigler. She was a graduate of Shades Valley High School in Birmingham and attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA for her first two years of college. Mrs. Pearce later transferred to Auburn University, in Auburn, AL where she received a bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Therapy. While at Auburn, Mrs. Pearce was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After graduation from Auburn, she attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota.
Mrs. Pearce worked for the Department of Defense School System for over 22 years as a school speech language therapist at both Ft. Benning, GA and at Ft. Bragg, NC. During her life, she enjoyed raising and showing Scottish Deerhounds and Irish Wolfhounds and was a consummate reader.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother William Stephen Stigler, Sr, who was also a graduate of Auburn University.
Mrs. Pearce is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Neil A. Pearce of Waverly Hall, GA; three nieces, Kemberly Stigler Bennett, Elizabeth Stigler Bradford, Anna Stigler Rodgers and a nephew, Dr. William Stephen Stigler, Jr, all of Birmingham. There are also several grandnieces and grandnephews who survived Mrs. Pearce.
Early in her marriage, Mrs. Pearce was diagnosed with systemic Lupus, a painful debilitating disease, which attacks the organs in the body. She bravely battled this disease throughout her life.
