Ellen Sargent of Columbus, GA died Thursday morning at Emory Hospital in Atlanta after surgery to treat complications due to a heart attack.
Memorial service will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA with Reverend Robert Beckum officiating. A visitation will follow service in Stockwell Hall according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Sargent was born in Selma, AL, daughter of Clem and Willie Pettie. In 1968, she married Bryan Blackburn Sargent. They were married 48 years and had two sons, Chris and Rick.
She held a Bachelor Degree in Education from Livingston University and Master Degree in Education from West Georgia College and 6 year Certification in Counseling from Troy State University.
Mrs. Sargent served as educator, teacher and counselor for 33 years. Her career began at Parris Island School, and the majority of her career was spent in the Muscogee County School District. She worked at JD Davis and Clubview Elementary schools.
She was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and member of the Tuesday afternoon, Soul Sisters bible study. She was member of the Junior League, Green Island Garden Club, and Green Island Book Club.
She is survived by husband, Bryan, two sons, Chris and Rick, daughter-in-law, Amy, and three granddaughters, Layna, Suzanna, and Eliza.
